Here I am!” cried a voice from the soup tureen, and Alice turned again, just in time to see the Queen’s broad good-natured face grinning at her for a moment over the edge of the tureen, before she disappeared into the soup. Through the Looking Glass, Lewis Carroll

Karla Swan ... I have a nearly 7 year old girl who refuses to take anything to school for lunch that is cold. While she will sometimes take spaghetti or meatballs, her preference is soup. Last year being my first time not working outside the home, I kept thinking I would have time to make nutritious, low in sodium soup for her to take to school. It rarely happened! So many days she took regular canned soup for lunch. Then I thought I would investigate organic soups. The ones I looked at use organic ingredients, but have the same sodium levels as regular soup. I tried fresh soups at the grocery store. These were not loved by my soup eating child. Then I found Serious Soups.

Serious Soups is a local company that creates 26 types of soups and sells them commercially in the lower mainland. They use only fresh, natural ingredients (low in sodium, no MSG or artificial preservatives). The product has fantastic flavor.

It is super easy (forgive the pun) to provide soup for the kids (both my kids now take it pretty much every day). I thaw out a one litre container and then warm it up as I am making the kids breakfast. One litre does 2 kids for 2 days with a little leftover for me for lunch one day! I have also used some of the more ‘sophisticated soups’ for dinner parties. You heat and serve and no one knows you didn’t put it together yourself! The product comes frozen and will keep in your freezer for months. Once thawed it is recommended to be used within a week.

I decided to see if there was a market for this in our neighbourhood and if I could make a little business out of it. There was and I did. I look forward to sharing this great soup with you and your family.

Wendi Spoor ... I am excited to be in business with my good friend Karla Swan.  We have spent hours discussing work opportunities that would be fun and interesting at the same time.  Then a few months back, Karla mentioned the idea of a home delivery soup business.  She had been searching for options for her somewhat finicky daughter (can anyone relate?), who will only take hot lunches to school.  With good intentions of making “big batches” of soup Karla realized that this rarely happened.  So the Soup Tureen was created, and since then I have been a huge fan of the healthy, delicious, and quick soups.  In fact, I am such a fan that we have decided to build the business together!

Like many of you I am a busy working mom, thus the reason that my family tried the Soup Tureen in the first place.  We eat them for lunches, dinners, quick snacks, and use them for entertaining.

I hope you find a moment to look at what the Soup Tureen has to offer. My hope is that it might make meals a bit simpler around your home.
